Naturalization/Citizenship Application Workshops

Naturalization/ Citizenship Application Workshops

Hogar’s Naturalization Assistance Workshops provide affordable, hands-on help for Lawful Permanent Residents who are ready to apply for U.S. citizenship. Our immigration attorneys, DOJ Accredited Representatives, and trained volunteers guide clients through the process – from confirming eligibility to completing and reviewing the N-400 application form. Workshops are offered monthly across the Diocese of Arlington.

Information for Applicants

Who can attend?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are 18 years or older
  • Have been a Lawful Permanent Resident (“green card” holder) for at least 5 years, or 3 years if married to a U.S. citizen
  • Have maintained continuous residence and physical presence in the U.S.
  • Have good moral character
  • Can speak, read, and write basic English (some exceptions apply)

If you are unsure about eligibility, a member of Hogar’s legal team will very your eligibility during a legal screening/consultation.

What should I bring?

Please bring originals and copies of the following items:

  • Green card (front and back)
  • All passports since you became a lawful permanent resident (current and expired)
  • Tax returns (last 3 years)
  • Marriage and/or divorce certificates (if applicable)
  • Proof of Selective Service registration (for males ages 18-26)
  • Any court or arrest record (if applicable)
  • Credit or debit card information for USCIS filing fee (see below for more details)

If you are missing something, please ask our staff during your legal screening and we will guide you.

How much does it cost?

Hogar charges $135 to attend our naturalization workshops, which includes an eligibility screening, preparation of your Form N-400 application, and reminder calls throughout the process.  This fee is payable by card, check, or money order.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) currently charges a filing fee of $760 per naturalization application. Starting October 28, 2025, USCIS will only accept filing fees collected through electronic debit or by credit card; personal checks and money orders will no longer be accepted. Please be sure to bring either U.S. bank account information or a credit card with you to the workshop; pre-paid credit cards are acceptable. Applicants should ensure their accounts have sufficient funds to cover all filing fees

Applicants with low income may qualify to pay a reduced USCIS filing fee or apply for a USCIS fee waiver. To see if you qualify, bring last year’s tax return or a benefits award letter, or ask Hogar staff during your screening.
