A Catholic Response
At Catholic Charities our faith is the foundation of everything we do. Led by our Shepherd, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge of Arlington, we rely on Gospel teaching and Catholic principles to guide us as we serve the poor and vulnerable throughout our diocese. Jesus’ love for all, especially those most in need, and our Catholic faith, which recognizes the God-given dignity of all, inspire our response to the poor and vulnerable in our communities. As a Roman Catholic organization we are led by our Bishop Michael F. Burbidge and a Board of Directors. The tenets of our faith inform our mission, vision and strategies. That same faith compels us to serve all God’s people in need, regardless of their faith. We strive to serve our communities by working closely with the Diocese’s 71 parishes, including offering some services on parish campuses.
Serving the Poor, Lonely, and Vulnerable
We feed the hungry, shelter the homeless, heal the sick, welcome the newcomer, care for the elderly and visit the imprisoned, as Jesus tells us to do in the Gospel. We serve all people in need, regardless of their faith. Catholic Charities serves those in our communities who live on the margins and experience material and spiritual poverty. Through more than 20 programs, we bring Christ’s love to those in need. We serve the hungry through our St. Lucy Food Project and the elderly at our St. Martin de Porres Senior Center. We also provide housing and job skills, welcome newcomers to the U.S., and visit those in prison.
Our family services program provides individual and family counseling. As the Church responds to the sexual abuse crisis, we also work with the Diocesan Victim’s Assistance Program to prioritize assistance to any person or family who has been victimized, regardless of where the abuse occurred.
Lives Transformed
At Catholic Charities our mission goes beyond offering temporary assistance to individuals and families in need. With a dedicated professional staff and a broad corps of volunteers we strive, with God’s grace, to help transform the lives of the people we serve. As a Catholic entity, we understand that real transformation occurs through Christ’s transformational love. We strive to help the individuals and families with whom we work rediscover their God-given human dignity and hope. Bringing both our faithful compassion and professional expertise, we walk with them on this path of personal and interpersonal development that leads to transformation.
